Easy Cranberry Relish

It’s the day before Thanksgiving, you’ve been busy at work, you’re going to the in-laws, or your parents house, or your besties’ place and you have NOTHING to bring. We’ve all been there. As much fun as the holidays are, they can also be super stressful if you’re trying to cook, clean, and/or travel.

Enter – cranberry relish. Granted, you could just go to the store and show up with a can of gelatinous gloop, but we’re adults now and eating whole, fresh foods is much more appealing. This recipe takes about 5 minutes to whip together, but it does require a food processor or chopper. And dare I say it, but this stuff is almost refreshing compared to a lot of the other foods on the table that may weigh you down.

Fresh cranberries, oranges, sugar, candied ginger (or powdered ginger if you already have that lying around) and walnuts. Blend it all together in the food processor, put it in a cute serving dish, and dash out the door to dinner!

LACMA Daytrip

As much as I love love love football Sundays, it is REALLY tough to justify sitting inside watching television when you’re living in SoCal (especially when your team isn’t on TV 95% of the time). This past Sunday, I decided to get up off the couch and go see what Downtown Los Angeles had to offer. I’ve been spending a lot of time at the house lately getting over my post-election grief in an effort to save money, so I decided to give myself a $50 budget for the day and go on an adventure.

After skimming a few articles online, I decided my lunch stop would be Sack Sandwiches on Melrose. It was started by Top Chef contestant Michael Voltaggio and is incredibly affordable – almost everything on the menu is under $10. So I happily order my $5.50 cold fried chicken sandwich, sat outside and watched as someone was filming a reality show in the Alexander McQueen shop across the street. The chicken was delicious, my total with drink and parking was $9, and I had some entertainment so I’d say it was an excellent choice.

Once I had a full stomach, I hopped in the car and ventured a few miles to LACMA. Art museums are not really my boyfriend’s thing, so I figured I would take advantage of going solo and soak in as much art as I could. The usual tickets are $15, but I sprung for the $25 pass so I could also get into the limited exhibit – Guillermo del Toro’s “At Home With Monsters”.  Continue reading “LACMA Daytrip”

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds Three Ways

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and it seems like each year it’s here and gone before you know it! Did anyone notice how this year they didn’t show The Nightmare Before Christmas at all on ABC Family Free Form??? I was especially disappointed, because that’s one of my favorites. Thankfully, they still had Hocus Pocus and the Addams Family, so I was pretty content while carving my pumpkin.

Pumpkin carving is one of those traditions you either love or hate. I (obviously) love it, it’s something my family would do together growing up and I’m a sentimental sap so I love to keep it going. It’s a creative way to pass an hour or two, a little bit challenging, and you wind up getting a snack out of it! Not only are pumpkin seeds delicious when done right, but they have a ton of health benefits too. So thanks, mom and dad, for helping us carve all those years back and for making us a snack to boot!
